"Walled Garden" by Debra Band

This ketubah is reproduced from an original created by the artist using gouache, egg tempera, gold, and papercutting. The design is based on Biblical allusions to beauty, joy and fruitfulness, and the love of Jewish tradition. This ketubah features a sophisticated design incorporating brilliant color and delicate floral painting, printed papercut and beautiful Jewish symbolism celebrating the Jewish home. The full passage from the Song of Songs is worked into the inner and outer borders of the artwork. The overall design is that of an Eastern walled garden, with a fountain, pots of lilies, etrog and pomegranate trees, and grapevines. Rich gold (gouache) detail has been applied by hand and the first word of each Hebrew/Aramaic text is illuminated in gold gouache at the top.
