Israel was the name God gave to Jacob in Genesis 32:28. He had twelve sons. Eventually the families of these sons became the twelve tribes of Israel, each tribe being named after the respective sons of Jacob (Israel). The "children of Israel" who left Egypt were therefor the descendants of the twelve sons of Jacob.
This fabulous handmade joyous glass Menorah depicts the present-day "children of Israel" to be found in every corner of the world. Featured in the November 18th New York Times.
