Robert Lipnick, the son of a rabbi, grew up surrounded by the rituals, ceremonies and objects of Judaism. He felt a great need to fill the void created by the destruction of Jewish art in Europe throughout history. His artwork is instrumental in the development of the new tradition of Jewish art and ritual objects--Lipnick has developed a personal iconography to express the major themes of Jewish life. His imagery is both colorful and joyful. While these works are meant to be used in Jewish ceremonial traditions, the artist also views them as sculptures.
